Chapter 17: My story

“It is with considerable difficulty that I remember the original era of my being.” (Frankenstein, 99)

My name is Ducky and this is my story.

I was born at the Grandview Hospital at 2:22 pm in Dayton, Ohio on July 8th, 1998. I come from a family of 7 including my dad, my mom, my two older brothers, my younger sister, and my cat (yeah, she’s a part of the family). I stayed in Dayton for two years, went to live in New York for one year, and then moved to Orange County, California in 2001. I currently still live in Orange County and I’m going through my last year of high school.

Unlike the monster from Frankenstein, who had to learn from his own from trial and error, I learned mostly everything that I know from my two older brothers. They taught simple things like how to tie a shoe and how to boil water to more complicated things like how to drive a car and how to pick up girls.

I remember this one funny moment with my older brother, Tom. I was about 7 years old when he “taught” me how to ride a bike. I got on my small and black BMX bike, while my brother was holding on to me. I was biking and everything was going fine because I felt safe with him holding me. I knew that I wouldn’t fall or get into an accident into a tree or something. He told me after about 5 minutes of biking, “I am going to let go. Just keep on pedaling and don’t stop.” I said in a squeaky voice, “OK!” I started to pedal and kept pedaling and pedaling. After about 2 minutes of biking by myself, I thought to myself, “How am I going to stop?”  Tom never told me how to stop, so I didn’t know what to do. He kept on yelling to me, “SQUEEZE THE BRAKES! SQUEEZE THE BRAKES!” I didn’t know where the brakes were, so I just biked straight into a bush. When he ran up to me, the first thing he said to me was, “The brakes are right there. You should’ve squeezed them.” I ended with bruises and cuts everywhere and it wasn’t that pretty. To this day, I am still angry with Tom about that incident, but at least now I can say that I know where the brakes are.

It looked a little something like this:

I am on currently on my 17th chapter, going to turn 18 in July. I am hoping to be able to go to college, make lifelong friends, be successful, and fall in love. But first, I need: A girlfriend (just like the monster in Frankenstein).
